Legislative Report (1 October 2025)

Legislative Report
October 1, 2025

Welcome to October! It has been a beautiful start to fall in Saskatchewan. Our Minister of Rural and Remote Health, Lori Carr, is nearing the conclusion of her summer tour which saw her visit 50 rural health facilities around Saskatchewan. Joined by many local MLAs, she has expressed how wonderful it has been to meet and learn from health care staff in our province while seeing first-hand the needs in each community. Our government will continue to prioritize health care not only for patients, but for front-line staff providing the care as well.

Crown Investments Corporation Minister Jeremy Harrison and Energy and Resources Minister Colleen Young also recently travelled to Ontario for the Provincial/Territorial Energy Summit in Toronto.  Saskatchewan will play an important role in strengthening our country’s supply chains in key areas like critical minerals.  With renewed focus and cooperation across our nation to become an energy superpower, we are securing every opportunity to showcase that Saskatchewan has what the world needs

The end of September presented opportunities to recognize Construction, Supply Chain and Transportation weeks as well as Global BioTech Week. The people of Saskatchewan are hardworking leaders in these industries, and we are proud to proclaim weeks like these to show our government’s appreciation.

With the new school year comes a new Ministry of Education’s 2025-26 Youth Council. Representing the vibrant and diverse voices of Saskatchewan's youth, these young leaders will help shape Saskatchewan classrooms with their ideas, insights and leadership.  Throughout the year, council members will engage in several meaningful discussions with the Ministry of Education to offer their insights on various education-related priorities, including policies, curriculum and programs. Their contributions will help ensure that Saskatchewan's education system continues to reflect the voices and experiences of students.

Our province’s population continued to grow in the second quarter of 2025, reaching an all-time high of 1,266,959 on July 1, 2025 according to new Statistics Canada population estimates released today. Saskatchewan grew by 19,091 people or 1.5 per cent over the past year, third highest in Canada and well ahead of the national rate of 0.9 per cent. Statistics Canada shared in September that our province has the lowest unemployment rate in Canada and over 534,000 people are working full-time. Our ever-growing job market and our strong, safe and secure economy are two pillars of the growing population.

Please be aware of investment fraud over the phone and online. Our province has regulations intended to ensure that only trustworthy people are registered to sell securities and derivatives and that their businesses are financially stable. You can visit www.aretheyregistered.ca before making a new investment to ensure you are making the best decision for your household.

September 8 to October4 is Seniors Week in Saskatchewan. Our government is committed to meeting the needs of older residents and ensuring they have access to high-quality programs and services. New programs and benefits for seniors are: full coverage of continuous and flash glucose monitors, expansion of the Personal Care Home Benefit to bridge the gap between seniors' monthly income and the care they deserve, the senior’s supplement increase of $500 a year for the next four years over and above the impact of indexation. This is the largest personal income tax reduction since 2008. Ambulance trips are capped at $135 and inter-facility transfers are provided at no cost to seniors aged 65 and older. Through the Seniors’ Drug Plan, prescription drugs listed on the Saskatchewan Formulary, or approved under Exception Drug Status, are limited to a maximum cost of $25. Thank you to all our senior citizens who have each contributed to the province we love so much today.

Truth and Reconciliation Day was September 30th. Please join our government in reflection while continuing to learn about the truths which will pave the way for meaningful reconciliation. Premier Scott Moe visited Île-à-la-Crosse School recently and shared his thoughts on how Saskatchewan is at its best when our province is a place that everyone is proud to call home, where we all have equal opportunity to prosper and live in safe, healthy communities. It is our sincere hope his apology on behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan for the school which was operated from 1860 to the 1970’s will provide closure to the former students. Minister of Highways David Marit recently announced the naming of Highway 201 as Chief Kahkewistahaw Way.  We are grateful to Chief Evan Taypotat for recommending this highway designation, which will remind us of one of the people who shaped the history of this region.

Our government is always working to keep Saskatchewan’s economy strong, our communities safe and our future secure. Please contact our office with any questions or concerns using the contact information below.
