After receiving a strong mandate in the provincial election, our government is at work responding to the realities of COVID-19 while managing our economic recovery.

While no one can deny 2020 has been a challenging year, there is every reason to be optimistic about the future. Over the past number of months, we have seen the strength and resiliency of Saskatchewan people. Together, we have adapted to a changing world. We have found ways to keep connected, ways to keep our economy moving and people working. We owe a debt of gratitude to all essential workers who have helped to ensure that both our safety and our needs are being met.

In response to climbing case numbers, public health orders have been amended. This includes the reduction of indoor gathering sizes as well as mandatory masking.

Indoor Gathering Sizes Reduced

Across the province, the maximum allowable gathering size for private gatherings in the home setting is now 10, down from 15. This includes household members. Any event that occurs in a private dwelling and any outbuildings (garages, etc.) linked to a private dwelling including weddings, religious gatherings and funerals, must abide by the 10 person gathering limit.

Mandatory Masking Required in Public Places in the Largest Saskatchewan Cities

The use of non-medical masks are mandatory in public spaces in Saskatoon, Regina and Prince Albert until further notice. For communities not impacted by the mandatory order, health officials strongly recommend wearing a non-medical mask in indoor spaces as an additional measure to reduce the transmission of COVID-19.

Though our economy continues to face challenges due to COVID-19, we are trending toward a strong recovery. In October, Saskatchewan had the lowest unemployment rate in Canada for the third consecutive month. The unemployment rate improved to 6.4 per cent, which is well below the national rate of 8.9 per cent.

Though these numbers are encouraging, we must remain disciplined and abide by the public health orders put in place by our Chief Medical Health Officer in order for us to see a full economic recovery.

Your Saskatchewan Party government has a plan for a strong economic recovery, and we will continue to advocate for our wealth generating exports. Saskatchewan has the food, fuel and fertilizer that the world needs and our province is leading the nation in increasing our exports to foreign markets.

Remembrance Day

This Remembrance Day, many in this province took time to pause and honour our service men and women, in a non-traditional way. Virtual ceremonies were streamed across the province to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice that so many have made for our freedom. Thank you to The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command for your efforts in ensuring that our brave men and women would still be honoured this Remembrance Day.

To the men and women who serve our country, whether decades ago or still to this day, we thank you. We honour your sacrifice, your families and all that you gave for this great nation. On Remembrance Day, and every day, we will remember you.
